Well as you can see this post is filed over in Misc. That would be short for Miscellaneous Ramblings. I’m in the process of moving from my tiny apartment into a larger condo. Yes moving sucks, and moving through the holidays sucks even more. I have to be out of my apartment on the first. And no the Apartment Management will not be there on the 1st but I still have to be out. So back to last night… I meet up with the contractor that upgraded the condo to it’s current state, everything looks good, a couple hiccups here and there but the two major issues, the heat is not working nor is the hot water in the master shower. I know what you’re thinking, yes the gas is on and yes the hot water heater is on/working. I’m getting hot water in the other sinks/tub. He manages to fix the heater in a few moments, bad wire and fuse. No problem, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and we’re all most there.
So Jim ( Names have been changed to protect the innocent), what do you think is the issue with the hot water in the shower? “Problem is you’re not getting any hot water” You don’t say. How do you think you can fix it. “Easy, you just need to run down to Home Depot to get a new mixit cartridge, I’m sure John ( Condo-Owner) will re-imburse you.” I get to HD there are a hundred mixit cartridges for different types of showers, 2 handles, 1 handles, moen, prices, hamilton, delta. You get the point. Let me give Jim a call…. oh yeah I just met him 10 minutes ago and I don’t have his number. About the 10 minutes ago, I was scheduled to meet him at 5:30 he shows up at 7:20, like I have nothing to do on Christmas Eve - Eve. So I get a generic part take it back…. To make a long story short… That’s not what’s wrong…. I need a whole new shower set, to include actual copper hardware in the wall…. 4 Trips back to HD and I got the right stuff.
Upon my return from my last trip… I hear Jim yell out “Hey Mark you got a cup of water?” 2 Minutes later he is running down the stairs and out the door, Next I hear “Mark, get your ass to the window and catch this water hose, or we’re going to have to call the Fire Department!” So up through the second story window which is now bellowing smoke I catch the hose, run over to the wall and start to fight the fire. Jim using his “hot-wrench” to cut away the old plumbing managed to catch the fiberglass shower enclosure on fire which then spread up behind the wall!
I think I got to sleep around 1 this morning. Despite the still not having hot water, some minor water damage to the brand new kitchen, large burned out hole in bedroom behind shower, broken window (emergency action to get the water hose) , large hole in shower, super huge mess from water upstairs and down. I’m still smiling.
I still have to be out of my apartment on the first so this Christmas I will be cleaning and trying to get the condo in a condition in which is livable.
Fun Times!
Happy Holidays Everyone!
