Google’s New Smarter Sitemap Generator

The Google Webmaster Central blog announced that they have just released a new Sitemap generator that works on both Linux/Apache and Microsoft IIS Windows-based servers. The Sitemap generator is different and possibly smarter than other Sitemap tools because it uses web traffic, log files and other methods to find new or modified URLs. You can download the new tool over here.

Why go through the process of setting up a Sitemap file? Well, Google themselves said on the Sitemap Generator page, “you are more likely to get better freshness and coverage in search engines” if you submit a Sitemap to Google. Plus, there are somereports to validate that claim.

A Link Building Exercise

I figured I’d start the new Year off with a little link building. So today I will create outbound links to anybody who wants one. Just sign-up for my rss feed anf then tell me the url, the text of the link, and whether it is safe for work or not. That’s it. I will post the links here to start, once the post is up and running and generating a little bit of traffic I will post a twitter message with a link to the url for all my twitter followers.

Achievable Goals for 2009: The Plan of Attack

Today is a slow news day for the SEO and Internet Marketing world so I figured I’d write about my goals for this site for next year. The key to setting goals is to set them as high as possible while maintaining a real chance of accomplishing them. If you are constantly setting goals and never enjoy success then you are much more likely to give up. So keeping that in mind here are a few of my goals for 2009:

* Reach 200 visits per day to the site
* Reach 60 RSS Subscribers
* Get at least 2 of my friends blogging
* Start at least two more blogs for myself
* Generate $5 a day from this blog
* Post at least 5 posts per week
* Start video blogging (at least 1 per month)
* Increase comments (Ideally this will come with traffic)
* Create a social media footprint (currently on 0 [Zero] sites)
* Network, Network, and more Networking

Search Results Page: Where you want to be

Consider an airline, a topic I’m familiar with because I spend a good part of my life on the flying metal of one airline or another. In today’s hypercompetitive world, all airlines are struggling to differentiate themselves, but price is always an overriding concern. So although they might not advertise themselves going head to head with a low cost operation like Southwest, they have to be competitive on the same routes that Southwest flies. Price is the given. From there, airlines distance themselves from Southwest based on frequent flier perks, cabin amenities, friendliness of staff or some other factor.
